How do realtors work for renters, what's the general process? Does the renter have to pay a realtor for help finding and signing a lease? Are there any realtors you all know that could help a renter aka me? I've been searching online and facebook marketplace and have encountered several scams. I have no experience working with realtors to find a lease so thought I'd ask this sub. Thanks

Am I overthinking or is this weird asf? I’m looking for a new place to rent and two people have gotten back to me, asking me to pay for my own credit check and background check. One of which told me to use whitebridge.ai for the background check, pay $40, and that put a fraud alert on my account.
I’ve never had to pay for my own background check for any place I’ve lived whatsoever. After the first unprocessed charge produced a fraud alert on my account I’m suspicious, this second reply to me is asking the same.
Am i overthinking?
