Hello!
I’m pretty new to substrate, were using a 30/70 mix of play sand and top soil.
Well recently we found mold in the tank, thankfully pretty low down in the soil and so we removed the substrate, deep cleaned her tank, and right now she’s on paper towels. I wish I got a picture but I was so panicked I didn’t get one.

My questions is:

1. How do you prevent mold? I know springtails and isopods are an option but our tank is not bio active.
2. How often do I mist the tank? I heard you’re supposed to do that with substrate but I worry I might’ve been misting too often?
3. If misting less often, how do you keep your humidity at the right level? We sit around ~30% typically, but lately it’s been up at 60-70% because of the weather and I think that has a part to it and I struggle to bring the humidity back down.
