Hey everyone! I posted the draft for this art a while back, and recently the artist completed the commission! This is the cover art for a Nine Sols/Gargoyles crossover story called No Longer You. For the Nine Sols fans here, gargoyles blends together mythology, urban fantasy, and sci fi, and explicitly included aliens and time travel. The premise of the story involves Brooklyn, who in canon was fated to go on a 40 year journey through time, winding up in the time period where the Solarians were colonizing Earth and meeting Yi. This results in significantly different results than the game, and it’s explored through flashbacks that cover the journey and the present after it is over.
It is meant to tie together their surprisingly many overlapping themes, including the folly of seeking immortality, losing your home and family and what to do after, relationship between magic and science, and family. The fic itself also deconstructs a few of themes and ideas of gargoyles. Throw in some time travel shennegans and additional elements of transhumanism (trans gargoylism? Trans-solarianism?) and dark fantasy and cosmic horror inspired by Lovecraft, Castlevania (both the series and Order of Ecclesia especially), Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Signalis and that's basically the fanfiction.
