[Story] Room 404 — the one nobody checks out of
[Story] Room 404 — the one nobody checks out of
They gave me Room 404 on a Tuesday.
Not because it was available. The receptionist looked at me like I was already apologizing for something, slid the keycard across without a word, and that was that.
The room existed between floors. I know how that sounds. But the elevator buttons went 3, then 5. No 4. The stairs had a landing with a door that didn't align with any floor I could measure. And yet — there was a bed. A lamp that hummed in a frequency I felt in my fillings. A mirror that showed the room a half-second before I moved in it.
I stayed six nights.
I'm still not sure I left.
