Mental block after 6 years away from goalkeeping
Sorry if this is the wrong sub for this but here we go:
I used to play in goal until I was 11 or something. I was actually pretty decent back then and didn't care about throwing myself at the ball. Then I broke my arm during a save, nothing too crazy, but I just stopped playing after that.
Now I’m 17 (please dont ban me guys i just need help😭🙏)and want to start again. I’m not in a team yet, just training on my own or with a friend. The problem is I have a massive mental block. Diving to the right is somewhat ok, but to the left (where I had the injury), I just freeze. It’s like my brain won’t let me move, and I end up just standing there.
It’s frustrating because I know I used to be able to do this, and now I feel like I’m starting from zero and I'm honestly pretty bad right now in general.
Also im pretty small for a GK. Im about 1.80m. (its so over, i know)
Has anyone dealt with something like this after a long break? How do I get past the block and get my instincts back? How do I get back to where I once was physically and mentaly?
Thanks in advance.
Sorry for the "bad" english, im german.
