Hey guys- I just picked up my very first bike a few weeks ago, a 2007 VT750C2. When I got it, the owner had taken apart the ignition housing because it had been dropped and the heated throttle grip broke off, and the replacement grip he had for it was too short so the throttle was disconnected. However, the bike started, it switchedgears, brakes worked so I took it and fixed the throttle myself after ordering the correct length grips, which also worked. Fast forward a few days, I was taking it to work, and about ¼ mile from my house the engine cuts off and the oil light comes on. I didnt want to mess with it so I walked it home. A few days later I did an oil change (which i shouldve done when I first bought the bike, that was stupid) and tried again, and the same result. I got about ¾ of the way around my neighborhood, and the engine shut off and the light came back on. Now, when I did the oil change, I let the bike idle for about 20 minutes to get the new oil flowing throughout the engine, and nothing happened. No cut off, no weird noises, no light. So my question is, does it sound like an engine issue, could it be something with my riding? I will admit I took my MSF BRC in October 2024, and wasnt able to get a bike until now, so while im still confident with riding, its possible I may have forgotten some things, like maybe Im not changing gears properly and thats causing the RPMS to drop, not enough oil pressure to the engine and the bike shutting off. I was planning on taking it into a shop, but if its an issue with my riding, maybe I won't have to. Any help is appreciated; thank you
