I attend this co-ed skills and drills, I love it, but as a 5’3” woman I really struggle with the men who are much taller (5’10 and taller), especially in tight spaces. We recently did this drill where the player on the other side, starts with the puck and passes to you when they’re halfway/at the stick, you have to catch it while they immediately start playing defence on you. I was paired against a tall guy and for the life of me, I couldn’t get past him.
I’m trying to research how to beat them for next time, but a lot of the tips seem to say speed. I must still be too slow and new (been skating/playing for almost 5 years 😭) because I struggle to see how with such limited time and space how I can blow past them in a one on one.
I tried curling away and figure 8ing but I was too slow and he was always there! I tried putting it between his feet, but again I wasn’t quick enough getting around him.
Does anyone have any tips on speed and deception during 1 on 1? Videos? Diagrams? Anything is appreciated ❤️
