Are my setups suitable?
Just got my first two colonies for my birthday (first 2 photos dairy cows second 2 zebras) and I just built their homes.
Dairy Cow Tank:
3 gal tank
ZooMed Creature Soil
Sphagnum Moss
Leaves from reptile store
Cork Bark
Calcium tablet thing (for isopods)
Springtails
Zebra Tank:
1.25 gal tank
ZooMed Creature Soil
Sphagnum Moss
Leaves from reptile store
Cork Bark
Calcium tablet thing (for isopods)
Springtails
I made sure the substrate is moist and tried to create a humidity gradient. It’s been a couple hours since I’ve released them and they all seem to be exploring and settling in.
I picked the larger tank for the Dairy Cows because they’re bigger first of all and I heard they multiply like crazy. My care routine would include dropping the occasional protein/fruit/veggie about 2-3 times a week, adding more leaves once the leaves look low and adding moisture every other day because I live in a dry climate.
Is there anything else I should do? Anything more I should know/look out for? Do they need enrichment? Like a change of pace or new decorations every once in a while? I’m also planning on getting a humidity sensor but they didn’t have it at the reptile store and I refuse to shop at big box pet stores/amazon.
Thank you! I’m excited to take care of my new babies!
