Im an incoming electrical engineering student at a UC school with a budget of around $1000-$1500 for a laptop.
My main needs out of a laptop: Runs all engineering related tools--ergo no ARM based processors, or apple os computers, have decent battery life--good enough brightness during lectures for at least 4 hours and preferably upwards of 6, be able to run modded Minecraft as a means of keeping in touch with old friends and family--i know it sounds weird but its a thing we do
Wants: The ability to upgrade Ram later on when (HOPEFULLY) it isn't as expensive, add storage using an internal drive rather than an external drive because I think dual booting is cool, have a computer that I can reliably depend on for 4+ years, to have a machine that is worth the investment as a primary medium for all my college work that is fast enoguh and feels good to use
I really want to justify a framework laptop here, and I love the idea of being able to resell and/or keep old components to assemble into other laptops/desktops but I have no idea where to start with buying a framework especially with the addition of the 13 pro coming out here or if a framework laptop is even the best option for what I need considering I am a college student and a framework laptop might just be too much of an investment now. I'm also very agreeable with the idea of buying used to save money.
tldr; I need laptop reccomendations for engineering
