Thinking of picking up a used Lenovo Yoga as my first homelab — worth it over a VPS?

Hey folks, considering geting a used Lenovo Yoga (8GB RAM, 128GB SSD) to self-host a few websites and applications on Ubuntu.

My main dilemma: the price of this laptop is roughly equal to 3 months of a VPS, but VPS latency has been genuinely frustrating for my use case and Time of Maintaining the server

My situation:

  • 200 Mbps Airtel broadband (should be fine for hosting)
  • Power cuts happen once a day but are short duration — so uptime isn't perfect but mostly stable
  • Goal is to host a few lightweight websites + apps, nothing heavy

What I'm unsure about:

  • Is 8GB RAM / 128GB SSD enough for running a few Dockerized apps on Ubuntu?
  • Does the daily power interruption (even if brief) make self-hosting unreliable vs a VPS?
  • Any UPS recommendations to handle the short cuts?

Would love to hear from anyone in India running a homelab at home — is it worth the trade-off over a VPS, or am I overthinking the latency issue?

Currently using MX Keys – great for productivity, no complaints.

Tried a few others:

  • TVS Gold (Cherry Blue) – too loud, didn’t like it
  • Keychron K8 (Brown) – enjoyable feel but slowed my typing, so sold it

Now considering MX Mechanical (tactile quiet). Seems like a middle ground between low-profile and mechanical.

Looking for:

  • Fast, consistent typing
  • Comfortable for long coding sessions
  • Quiet but still some mechanical feel

If you’re using it:

  • How’s typing speed vs MX Keys?
  • Logitech Customizability

Thanks!

Hi everyone, I’m currently on GitHub Copilot Pro at $10/month, and my current next payment date is May 15, 2026.

When I go to upgrade, GitHub shows Copilot Pro+ at $39/month, says I’ll be billed today minus a prorated credit from my existing subscription, and the next payment date shifts to the new upgrade date.

GitHub has also announced that individual Copilot plans are moving to usage-based billing starting June 1, 2026.

My confusion is about upgrading in between billing dates and quota periods.

If I upgrade before my current Pro renewal date:

  • Do I actually get the higher Pro+ usage allowance immediately, or does it effectively wait until the next monthly reset?
  • Are my leftover Pro days only converted into a prorated money credit at checkout, instead of giving me any kind of day-based quota credit?
  • If I upgrade near the end of May, what exactly happens between the upgrade date and June 1, when the new pricing model starts?

Example:

  • Current plan: Pro at $10/month.
  • Upgrade option: Pro+ at $39/month.
  • Checkout says: billed today minus prorated credit, then full Pro+ on the new billing date.

I’m basically trying to understand whether upgrading mid-cycle is worth it, or whether it’s smarter to wait until the new June pricing kicks in.

Edit/Update: Thanks to the commenters who confirmed that under the current system, you actually DO get the full Pro+ limit (1500 requests) added to your account immediately when you upgrade mid-cycle!

Follow-up question for everyone: Any idea how this is going to work after June 1st? When GitHub switches to the usage-based token model, they are replacing the 1500 limits with a $39 pool of "AI Credits." If someone upgrades mid-month under the new system, do they get the full $39 credit pool instantly, or will it be prorated based on the days left in the month?

Hey, selling a Logitech MX Keys Mini (Business Edition). This one is basically new — just unsealed, not really used.

It’s the business edition, so you get the USB dongle support (unlike the regular version which is Bluetooth-only). Super clean if you want a stable connection without dealing with BT quirks.

Low-profile scissor keys — very smooth, quiet typing experience. If you’re into minimal setups or coming from laptops, this feels right at home.

Also works with Logi Options+ for customizing the function keys and shortcuts.

Condition: Essentially new

Price: ₹6000 (slightly negotiable, but please don’t lowball)

MX Keys Mini(without Dongle) goes for around ₹9K.

Location: LB Nagar, Hyderabad, Prefer offline F2F deal, can meet midway.

DM if interested.

Tool Pricing Pricing Model Key Advantages for You Drawbacks Best For
Google Antigravity Free (public preview) Generous rate limits on Gemini + Claude Sonnet access Strong agent-first platform, excellent planning & autonomous multi-step workflows, supports Claude Sonnet models, no monthly fee Standalone IDE (VS Code fork, not pure extension), limits may tighten later Heavy agentic work without paying subscription
ChatGPT Codex (with Go / Plus) Go: ~$8–12/mo Plus: $20/mo Subscription with higher Codex usage on Plus Good coding performance with Codex mode, strong on large codebases, includes agent features Not native VS Code extension (web + integrations), usage still has some hidden limits Users okay with OpenAI ecosystem & occasional complex coding
Windsurf Pro $20/month Daily + Weekly quota (refreshes automatically) + overage at API rates VS Code extension available, unlimited inline Tab & edits, strong Cascade agent, similar current pricing to future Copilot Pro+ feel Overages charged at token/API rates on heavy Sonnet use; quota can feel restrictive VS Code users wanting agentic features with daily reset
Amazon Q Pro $19/month Mostly request / inference-based with complexity factors (not pure tokens for core IDE use) Excellent VS Code native extension, solid agentic capabilities, includes Claude models, more predictable for chat & transformations Slightly less "creative" on pure Sonnet-style reasoning than dedicated Claude tools; AWS strengths shine more VS Code-native agentic work with request-like predictability
Amazon Kiro Included with AWS tools / part of Q ecosystem Request/complexity-based (task-oriented, not strict per-token) Developer-focused AI agent for IDE/CLI, good for structured coding, planning, and optimization tasks Tighter integration with AWS; less standalone than full Q AWS-heavy projects or structured agentic development

Hey folks,
Putting this up because it’s just sitting unused these days. I switched to a low-profile setup (MX Keys)

This is the Indian RGB version of the K8 V2 — solid, reliable board like you’d expect from Keychron. Brown switches, so you get that nice medium tactile feel without being too loud. Typing on it is genuinely satisfying, especially if you like a bit of feedback.

Condition is good — no scratches. Didn’t get much use honestly.

What’s included:

  • Original box
  • Extra keycaps (box)
  • Keycap puller
  • Braided Type-C cable
  • Manuals and everything it came with

Looking to sell within Hyderabad only — no courier, prefer a simple offline deal.

Price: ₹4500

If you’re interested, DM me. I’ll check messages after 6pm.
