OB asking for sterilization after 1st C-section??
I recently had my first visit with my new OB for my third baby. I’m 12 weeks now! I had to have my first two babies via C-section (first son was breech, second son was a failed VBAC). She recommended that I just plan a 3rd C-section, which I was already planning since my TOLAC and recovery experience was so traumatic. No problem there! But she asked me about doing sterilization while they’re in there operating for this C-section. I was a little surprised, but I asked if that was typical to ask after a 3rd c-section. To which she replied that she recommends it after a FIRST C-section. I was shocked because I’d never heard this before… and I would have been devastated to hear that after my first child. Plus, so many women have repeat C-sections with minimal complications! So thankful no one told me that after my first C-section! Has anyone else heard of this? Is it just my OB probably? My husband and I were planning on him getting a vasectomy after this baby anyway since we do want to be done at 3. But I couldn’t imagine hearing this if I only had one child. She said she wouldn’t ask again or pressure me into it, but wanted to make the option available. Which I appreciate! I just wonder how many women get told after their first child/C-section and how they’d react to that!
