Hello everyone!
Quick backstory: I've always wanted to make music. I could always sing, but I didn't know how to do the rest of it. I bought a guitar and piano keyboard during college and learned how to play (piano less so but you get it). I graduated college, got a full time job, and saw a bunch of signs from the universe that I just needed to do it and my dreams could come true. So I bought a bunch of baseline stuff.
Now: the first project on the chopping block was covering a song I knew well so I could improve my production skills and eventually start making my own songs. I chose Not Sorry For Loving You from Epic the Musical because the whole musical has taken over my life, and Jorge's story was another inspiration for me starting out.
So I've cracked out my Logic Pro software and started. The hold up right now is the orchestral part of the song (I'm not thinking about the drums yet don't bring it up).
The base melody is G# - C - G - A# - F - G# - G - A# - G# . I started by doing this melody across several instruments but I realized it needed lower and higher notes. So I tried some instruments going an octave lower and some instruments going an octave higher. That still didn't sound right. So I tried harmonies, but that still doesn't sound right to me. I'm a bit of a perfectionist, but I understood it would not sound exactly like the original, but it should still sound *right*, you know?
Sp what could I be doing wrong? Are there any tips some more experienced people could give me? I just want to preface again that I have absolutely no knowledge of this stuff. I just have a will, a way, ears, and a desire to learn.
