Hey everyone, looking for some honest input on my situation.
I'm a freshman at UChicago (Class of 2029) studying Econ and Data Science, recruiting for junior year consulting internships in fall 2027.
My profile:
- Overall GPA: 3.66 (projected by recruiting)
- Major GPA: ~3.2-3.3 (projected by recruiting) — I have one F freshman year in an econ class that's tanking it, surrounded by A's everywhere else. Yes, I failed for academic dishonesty. Only the F shows up on the transcript.
- UChicago Econ + Data Science double major
- Good competition finishes
- Research assistant experience with data analysis
- Nonprofit operations internship
- PE/consulting club member
My plan going into sophomore year:
- Land a startup strategy/ops role during the school year
- Join 2-3 additional clubs
- Reapply to more prestigious consulting clubs
- Grind case prep consistently
- Network heavily with UChicago alumni at target firms
My question: I noticed Deloitte's application specifically asks for major GPA as a required field. How much does major GPA actually factor into screening vs overall GPA? Does a low major GPA with a strong overall GPA hurt you significantly, or is overall GPA the primary filter?
Also, would I be correct to say that they wont really care about that singular F on my transcript? From what I understand, is that they will really only look at transcripts to check for GPA and school.
Also any general feedback on the profile welcome. Targeting Big 4 advisory/Monitor Deloitte primarily, Tier 2 as a stretch.
