Passport Delay - Seeking Advice
Hello. I am currently waiting for my passport due to a delay and am wondering if there is anything else I can do to receive it in time for my trip. This is my first time getting a passport, so I know I could have done better with more experience.
This is the timeline: On 4/3 I had the post office send off my passport application. It was recieved on 4/10. I paid for expedited service (2-3 weeks) as well as expedited return shipping. I then book my flights and car rental for 5/27.
On the evening of 4/17 I checked the status online and it said there was a problem. I called them Monday the 20th and they said they couldnt tell me what the issue was and that it was mailed instead of emailed because of confidentiality.
On 4/21 I received the letter which was mailed on 4/16. It said it coulsnt be processed because of back child support. I knew I was almost caught up so I was confused. It turns out there is a somewhat recent law in my state that if you have ever been over 2500 in back child support you were on a list, and you had to have it all paid down to be removed...
I called my state's child support services on the 22nd. I only owed a few hundred (been paying this down for 2 years). I paid it off that same day. It cleared on the 24th and they sent the hold release that day. They said the passport agency should see it by the 28th. On the 30th I hadnt seen any status changes so i called the passport agency again. They said they should have gotten the notification and advised me to call back on the 13th if I hadnt seen anything.
On 5/8 I got another notification saying they were waiting for info, so on 5/9 I sent a letter to them saying that everything was paid and asking them to review it and resume processing as soon as possible. I sent it priority with tracking. It is supposed to arrive on 5/13.
I was planning on calling them again on that date and letting them know they should have recieved that letter and asking them what can be done to get it processed in time to get back to me. If they send it off by next Wednesday it should get to me in time.
My questions are: First, is this a lost cause? And if not, is there anything that I can do to get this going? Ask for a supervisor? Different number to call? Does anyone have any advice for me? I am also going to call the airlines tomorrow to see if they will let me move the flight if I can't get it in time.
Any help from those with more experience than me would be appreciated!
