My copper IUD broke upon removal a couple of days ago and so a piece is left inside of me. I was referred out by my gynecologist to have a surgery performed to remove it.

I’ve now called the doctors office like three times to try and schedule and every time I’m told I can only leave a message and then nobody ever calls me back. Today I spoke with them and they said it looked like the doctor didn’t even have any availability until June to do the procedure at which point I asked if that’s concerning at all basically wondering how big of an issue this is like is it OK to leave it until June because nobody’s really talked to me about concerns.

So I guess I’m just wondering if anybody has experience with this how big of an issue with this? Is it OK to leave it for a couple of weeks? I mean I’m not in any pain right now so maybe it’s OK. Maybe I’m freaking out more than I need to be.

The doctors office did say that they had it marked as an urgent issue, which leads me to believe that waiting a few weeks until June would not be ideal, but I don’t know because nobody’s telling me anything

I went in today to have an ultrasound done because I’ve been having some severe bloating and painful intercourse, and I suspected an ovarian cyst or endometriosis.

My ovaries look fine, but my doctor told me that my IUD was misplaced, and it was in my cervix or closer to my cervix, rather than up in my uterus where it should be. She recommended removing it.

We did the removal and then she proceeded to tell me that the IUD broke and part of it was still left inside of me so I’ll need a procedure done to remove it. She seemed very unfazed and acted like this was super normal. I can’t tell if this is a big deal or not. I feel weird knowing that there’s something up inside of me even though it’s likely been like that for months to years.

I’ve also read stories of people who went to have it removed and it was unable to be removed and then their options are to leave it or have a hysterectomy and my next question is if the option is to leave it and it’s not a big deal then why would I even bother having the procedure to remove it to be clear I want to remove it because the idea of it being in there is really icky to me, but I’m just confused
