Hello! My friend (30F) and I (23F) are staying 2 days in Zanzibar after a motorcycling trip across Tanzania in July. We’ve done some research about what we want to do but obviously are seeing so many mixed opinions. We’re interested in doing some snorkeling, maybe kite surfing, relaxing, eating good food, and honestly just want to explore as much as we can fit in to 2 days.
I mean all of this with respect, but I was initially looking at staying in Stone Town and i’m seeing that there is a lot of cat calling and general concerns about how traveling women are treated. I’m not sure how true this is or how big of a concern it is. But i’m also unsure of which activities to focus on if we decide to stay here.
I’ve also looked at Nungwi. I’ve seen that some people think it is basically a party spot, some say it’s the best for first timers. We don’t plan on clubbing but would be up for it if it’s a must. We want to immerse in some sea life and I’m seeing that this may be the best place for dolphins and snorkeling?
Also Paje. I’m very interested in kite surfing and seeing this is the best place for it. I really want to see the giant tortoises which i’ve seen are highly populated in salaam cave.
I’m also from the US, and i’m unsure about how modestly I should plan to dress to be respectful in each place. Some posts say just make sure to cover shoulders and knees, some say it doesn’t matter in certain places.
Overall I suppose I’m asking what’s true and what’s not, or just opinions for what’s most important to do with so little time. Also how practical it would be to visit multiple places. Any comments or other suggestions welcome and appreciated!!!
