2014 Jetta TDI on Oahu; long-term ownership viability

Hey all, looking for some input from anyone with TDI ownership experience in Hawaii, especially Oahu.

I have a 2014 Jetta TDI that’s been a solid car for me. I lived in WA before this, kept it entirely stock, handled all my own maintenance, and overall had very few issues.

I recently shipped it to Hawaii on PCS orders, and I’m trying to figure out whether keeping it here long term makes sense, especially with the different driving environment compared to the mainland.

For anyone who’s owned a TDI there:

  • How has long-term reliability been?
  • Any DPF / EGR / emissions-related issues from island driving?
  • Difficulty sourcing TDI-specific parts locally?
  • Any challenges finding competent TDI mechanics if needed?
  • Anything you wish you knew before keeping one long term in Hawaii?
  • How painful is shipping parts like CP3 kits, FMIC, etc from sellers like Darkside?

I’m not interested in deleting since I don’t want legal headaches if I end up getting orders somewhere like California later on.

I know island ownership can be different, so I’d appreciate honest input.

I might consider selling it to someone in the TDI community if long-term stock ownership here seems like more trouble than it’s worth, so if that would interest anyone, feel free to mention it.

Not trying to make this a sales post, mostly just looking for owner experience and insight.
