Tire Place Broke Wheel Studs

Just a feeler, I know shit happens. I told the kid at the tire place that the tires were 22 years old and that it might be rough getting them off my 4 x 7 aluminum trailer. he came in 10 minutes later and told me 3 studs had snapped off the wheel base and that they would have to repair.

Well $170 CAD (extra on top of the $550 for tire install) later they fixed it by welding new ones on and mounted the tire...

I told him we both learned something and he shrugged it off. I mean I could have left it overnight to soak in some penetrant or something.

is this just an eat it moment which happens, which I would understand. Or would an experienced tech known not to over torque and wreck 3 studs?

trailer is a ubilt year 2000
