Soviet X-Files

I have this idea in my head of a TV show that operates basically on the same premise as the X-Files but in the Soviet Union during the 60s/70s. Two agents working for a small unit in the KGB that are sent to investigate strange and unexplained phenomena such as extraterrestrial and paranormal activity. If I were to make it I would focus on achieving a very specific type of aesthetics and atmosphere. Bleak, eerie settings and stories, with a backdrop of Cold War paranoia. Disheveled socialist-modernist architecture, worn and outdated equipment, sparse snow covered natural landscapes. I’m thinking something like HBO’s Chernobyl and Tarkovsky in its visuals. I wouldn’t want it to have a silly American bias like most western depictions of the USSR, it wouldn’t be a comment on ideology. Some of the famous bureaucracy and secrecy of the Soviet chain of command could help the plot though, similar to how Mulder and Scully have to fight against shadowy members of their own government. I think as a setting it could be perfect for a show about creepy investigations and if properly made it could be amazing. Unfortunately I am not a filmmaker and am poor so I won’t be making it any time soon. To properly see out my vision the project would need a massive budget as well haha.
