So, I’ve gone down the rabbit hole that is the Disney influencer bubble on TikTok. They’re all clones of each other, with some minor differences here and there, and it’s creepy. They all:

- shill random Disney merch, and make buying it into a competitive sport, and will treat spending $300 on the newest Stoney Clover launch as nothing

- spend exorbitant amounts of money on clothes and makeup, and cake on the makeup the same way Jacqui does

- dine at Disney regularly, and are there to “review” every new viral food item (and aren’t even honest about it anyway, or heavily sugarcoat it, to stay in Disney’s good graces)

- latch onto a specific IP and make it their personality. With the women, choosing a specific princess is the popular choice

- stay at Disney resorts on a whim for “staycations”

- desperately tag Disney, or any brand collabs with Disney, in hopes of getting sponsored or free things

- will try to do dances to viral songs at Disney locations to go viral themselves

The big difference between these influencers and Jacqui is that these people are often childless, sometimes single, and have far fewer responsibilities. Jacqui essentially tries to still do all the above, but doing so results in neglected kids. She takes hours each day trying to create Disney content, when she could instead be making healthier meals, keeping things clean, and making sure developmental milestones are being met. I’m not against incorporating fun into parenting, but taking the kids to Disney all the time to use them for content creation just inhibits development. She is not rich enough to have 24/7 nanny services, private chefs, and private tutors for the kids, so it results in skimping everywhere to keep up with these other influencers. Disney has made it pretty obvious they aren’t interested in working with her directly, so she’s spending hours per day trying to make viral Disney content, with little payoff. For her, this is like being caught in an MLM, but you could say that for most of these influencers. The amount paid just to create advertising is significantly higher than any benefits. Most of these influencers, even the ones more successful than Jacqui, are lucky to get occasional free merch. Even fewer get free trips, and an even smaller percentage ever get genuine cash benefits in the form of a sponsorship. Jacqui is neglecting her kids and just general adult responsibilities to chase a fantasy unlikely to happen.
