Assalamu Alaikum 🌙

Tired of reading every ingredient on every product

looking for hidden haram?

Built an app for this exact problem.

flags pork derivatives, gelatin, alcohol, carmine,

lard and L-cysteine automatically.

Also works as a full halal ingredient checker for

packaged foods, sauces, snacks and supplements.

I built an iOS app that scans food labels and scores ingredients based on YOUR health profile

Hey everyone,

I've been working on this for a while and finally shipped it.

Wanted to share with this community.

THE PROBLEM

I have a family member with diabetes and food allergies.

Every time we go grocery shopping, we spend 10 minutes

reading ingredient labels trying to spot hidden sugars,

seed oils, and allergens. It's exhausting and easy to miss

things.

Most food scanner apps give you a generic score that means

nothing if you have specific dietary needs. A product that's

"great" for someone else might be terrible for you.

WHAT I BUILT

Nutrition Facts AI — an iPhone app that scans any food label

and scores it 0-100 based specifically on YOUR profile.

You set your flags once:

- Diabetes → it watches for added sugars, maltodextrin,

enriched flour

- Allergies → flags your specific allergens on every scan

- Keto → catches hidden carbs and starchy fillers

- Heart health → flags sodium, trans fats, saturated fat

- Halal/Kosher → flags pork, gelatin, alcohol, carmine

- Seed oils → flags canola, soybean, sunflower oil

- Artificial colors → Red 40, Yellow 5, Blue 1 and more

Point your camera at any label. It scans automatically,

shows a verdict (GREAT CHOICE / MOSTLY OKAY / WATCH OUT /

AVOID THIS), and lists exactly which ingredients triggered

the flag.

Everything runs on-device using Apple's AI. No account,

no server, no data collection.

WHAT I LEARNED BUILDING IT

- On-device AI with Foundation Models Framework is

surprisingly capable for ingredient parsing

- Getting App Store approval with health-related apps

requires very careful wording around medical claims

- Open Food Facts is an incredible free resource that

most people don't know about

Free to download with 2 scans per day. Pro unlocks

unlimited scans.

Would love any feedback — especially from anyone with

dietary restrictions who might actually use this.
