Thoughts on Fire Emblem Three Houses (First-time Switch 2 owner)
I'm typing this from remembrance due to IRL stuff, but really wanted to type about my experience playing the game as a first-time owner going in blind.
I'm going straight into it, Three Houses is amazing. On Nintendo console side, I only owned a GameCube to play Sonic Adventure 2, and Super Mario 3d world for the Wii U (along with COD bo2). But, my friend introduced me to the FE series about a few years ago back in 2022 (yet I still never watched gameplay of FE before owning a S2) through FE Engage's OST, and I am still in love with it. So, anyways. I finally bought a Switch 2 a month or so a g (it was before March), and the first thing I bought when I saw it at my local game store was FE Three House's.
I didn't know anything about FE Three Houses, I went in blind (I was larping for years through OSTs), and playing it for the first time had me so confused cause I didn't know how Tactical turned-based games worked (was really acting slow. I'm used to turned-based games like SMTV but not tactical), so I stop playing it for a couple weeks before trying it again on a new save (because I forgot) and suddenly locked in on the mechanics and how the gameplay worked through watching videos on what to do. Let me tell you, two weeks flew by and I already locked in about 35 hours (whenever I get time to play) and the story was absolutely amazing. I was missing out on peak. The story feels like a "make your own choices" despite still having a storyline, and my favorite character is Bernadetta. I made her into a sub-dps/main dps when she's really needed. I really like Bernadetta's interactions with the other characters, it's cute and funny.
Gameplay after I figured out how to play felt like a breeze, I weirdly feel like a teacher because I'm also trying to think if I should have them switch over class to get them better as a lancer or axe-wielder. Story (sorry for bringing it up again) is just amazing. The one thing I'd probably say in my opinion that was a bit weak was Byleth's father death, but it still pissed me off and I wanted revenge regardless. I also love the side quests, too. I'm trying to do as much as I can with the side stories so I can get more lore and story out of the game. From what I can remember, I like Tales of the Red Canyon side quest because we get to speak with Sothis on trying to learn or regain her memories.
I'm not yet done with the game, I've just reached chapter 11, and did some research so I can get Edelgard's path.
Other than that, I am in love with FE series, and I wish they ported over more games to the Switch (with black magic, I know why they didn't from the Ds series), but after I'm done with FE 3 Houses, I'm going into straight into Engage. As of this moment, I'm patiently waiting for FE Fortunes Weave. 9.5/10
