Will you get the beeping sound if a key fob is nearby the car? Or only if it’s inside the car

I misplaced one of my key fobs, when I get out of the car (as I’m digging for it) i’ll get the beeping sound as if I left a key in there. I’ve torn my car apart. There is no key in there.

I really really don’t want to replace it.

I have a pods storage container in my driveway as I’m moving, is it possible it’s in here someplace?

Or will I only get that sound because it’s left in the car
