Weekly hour requirements

recently gms have been on us about hitting our 40 hours. does anyone else have this struggle at their store? is there a reason we HAVE to hit 40 hours a week? i've never had a job deduct money from my paycheck for not hitting 40 or making me work 40 hours. especially since we're paid hourly i don't understand the fuss about making sure we hit 40. also it seems kinda shady to be docking my paycheck because i didn't hit the 40 hours.
