The Real Reason The Death of the Governor Quest is Bloated

As well as other quests and areas of game design. A lot of Chinese mobile games are designed this way, most notably Honkai: Star Rail and Genshin Impact (both hoyoverse.)

What am I referring to? Well, mostly dialogue options that change nothing or a select option when there is only one thing to select, pointless mechanics like possessing lanterns to hear dialogue which is unskippable, many unnecessary moments where you're walking as slow as possible when it could and should be a cutscene, overall pointless things that serve to waste your time that could be excused as cinematic moments or tension building.

And not accidentally. This is done on purpose. I'm not posting because I want a skip dialogue button or because I have a "tiktok" attention span as people defending this say. A lot of older Chinese mobile games would include a lot of skipping options, but this is the new meta.

The story is translated poorly from a poetic and dramatic chinese language, so any story people think they're paying attention to needs elaboration from someone who speaks Chinese and understands the historical context and such of the game.

The reason for all of the bloat is to inflate play time metrics. Stats like downloads, concurrent players, player retention and play hours are all important for games, mobile games seem to emphasize things like these more. My reason for posting this is because people seem to think this is done on accident every time they complain. The Death of the Governor was probably the most shamelessly designed quest in this regard.
