Obsession is out this week, any predictions?

Obviously no spoilers, I know some people have seen early screenings but I'm going in pretty blind and I imagine other people here will be going in the same way.

I'm expecting it to be surprisingly good, while Blumhouse can admittedly be hit or miss, the trailers give me a lot of hope for this, especially since it's mostly an indie beyond the production studio.

I'm also really hoping for some brutal kills, given it's R rated. But I'm also wondering if the main guy will actually get to escape his situation, or if he'll need to kill the girl, but I'd probably be fine with either scenario. What are your thoughts?

Day 25 of adding a bucket on Kinger's head until Episode 9 releases

Today's bucket is the Lowe's bucket, bringing balance to the force with the Home Depot bucket.

First of all, humans already grey early, from stress, or genetic traits. Viltrumites also seem to have male pattern baldness as a common trait, especially in later years. So it shouldn't be too crazy that Nolan greyed so early in his life compared to Thragg.

Thragg could've been around since Nolan's father was in his prime (Nolan does say that mark could look 30 for hundreds of years, so his father could be any age in the flashback) or at least, not long before Nolan was 18, only really complicated by the reuse of animation assets beyond explicitly stated timelines which we don't get much of.

The other cause could be the Scourge Virus, Nolan was infected when he was 18, and this would've damaged cells and possibly his genes, since it's stated that the virus leads to a period of weakness, it's also possible parts of his genes responsible for aging were damaged, causing him to appear older earlier in his life than normal. Not that I think his life span is decreased, just that damage caused by aging was inflicted sooner.

I don't get why his grey hair is such a big deal anyway. Maybe Thragg just dyes his hair to appear younger.

For example, I'm wanting to get into designing a language for a race of bipedal bugs who have six limbs, two of which are also used for creating sounds for communicating along with their mandibles, and also lack the ability to create vowel sounds due to a lack of vocal cords.

I'm not sure where to begin with it, considering I could design either their writing first, or their speech, writing could be hard to design where it's accounting for their different biology affecting it, or impossible to create audible words for the same reason.

So considering this, I guess I'm asking what you do for your own non-human languages?

Astra(not depicted here):

Astra is a highly oxygenated planet, leading to much larger species of insects and arachnids and smaller species resembling mammalian species on Earth.

It is also tidally locked to Astromos, and performing just over a week long orbits around Astromos, greatly extending the day night cycle.

A thriving sapient species was discovered during early studies of the system, and later named the Astrans, communication with them have been difficult to establish due to their vastly different anatomy and communication methods, primarily communicating via chattering and movement of their appendages, but they are extraordinarily cooperative in developing implements for inter-species communication. So far, translating their written language has been comparatively easier than the spoken language.

Many cultures have been observed to perform body modifications to produce new sounds, sometimes as additional forms of communication or cultural practices. This can also be combined with various instruments to produce forms of music.

As part of the extended day night cycle, the Astrans perform migrations, preferring more nomadic styles of life, and moving during the day before settling down during the nights. Their early settlements instead served for a place that they return to during these periods of rest.

There are some cultures that have developed enough to satisfy their biological need to migrate, and instead simulate these day night cycles in-doors, though in some places it is still considered unhealthy to remain in one place during

migration periods and this is generally discouraged while respected.

Astrans:

This is the Astran species, that resides on Astra in the Astromos System.

Due to Astra's high oxygen atmosphere and low gravity, they've been able to evolve into a bipedal form and develop an extensive culture unlike anything seen on Earth. Exhibiting a culture more in tune with nature and less geocentric in origin, likely due to the gas giant their planet orbits.

Astrans are a sexually dimorphic species, and while both genders exhibit wings, the Females primarily stay grounded, while the Males fly out to hunt and find food.

However, it has been observed that some cultures or individuals go against this instinct, such as the one depicted here, who is biologically a Male Astran, yet has chosen to dress and live as a female Astran would in their culture.

Due to the lack of translation however, it's unknown if they actually identify as male or not, so they will be referred to with non-binary pronouns in research

Eternites:

Eternium is a fuel for space travel, a energy dense material that burns at extremely high temperatures, originally discovered in 2077, it allowed for rapid acceleration of human expansion into space and beyond the solar system.

After Eternium was discovered, methods to manufacture it were difficult and extremely expensive, and could previously only be harvested in clouds discovered in space, but after discovering the Astromos system, the Eternites were uncovered, a strange anomaly of life that traverses between Astromos, and Astra. Which produces Eternium as a by-product of it's feeding process.

Using this same biological process to propel itself through space over it's decades long life span, it flies between Astra and Astromos, feeding from the gases in Astromos' atmosphere before travelling back to Astra to breed.

Other moons of Astromos have also been observed to be used as nesting grounds for their young, particularly Tegion, which has a colder climate than Astra.

Authors note:

I'm taking a lot of inspiration from Dune, Hail Mary, and even Avatar with this concept. I'll be probably focusing on the Astrans, their culture, and their role in the galaxy going forward, also for those wondering, they call it the Astromos system because the Astrans considers the gas giant their "star" over the actual star itself, as they believed it was actually the center of their system for a long time before they discovered astronomy.

We've officially hit the two weeks mark! Just under 6 weeks left! (8 if you account for the youtube release)

Today I've added Lancer's bucket as suggested by yesterdays top comment, I am really loving the suggestions so far, so keep giving them!

Not assuming that the planet would actually be this close to one, but I'd been wondering for a while since I was developing a system that was a habitable planet orbiting around a gas giant, and wanted to know what I should consider
