I came home from work the other day to my elderly neighbor asking for a bandaid because she "took some skin off her fingers"... Yes, she was asking for a Band-Aid.
When I came around the corner and saw her porch I almost died on the spot. She is 80 years old, on blood thinners and kept telling me it was no big deal. She fought me about going to the emergency room until I threatened to call an ambulance and she finally relented. She ended up taking 47 stitches between four fingers. She will need to see a hand surgeon to keep an eye on things and make sure she won't need any further care.
She was in the yard trimming down some bushes and working on her garden... She lives for her garden and has a pretty big green thumb. Now she has a pretty big bloody thumb. She was a trooper through the whole thing honestly! Unfortunately the hedgehog trimmer got caught up in her sweater - which was long and flowing - causing her to lose her grip. Instinctually she reached out to catch it as it fell. She's lucky it wasn't a hell of a lot worse.
I'm not kidding when I tell you that she just wanted a couple Band-Aids and a joint from me. She really had no plans on going to the hospital... I seriously thought I was going to have to call an ambulance and send her without her consent. That generation is tough as nails. We spent almost 9 hours in the emergency room. Now I just have to keep her out of the garden long enough for her hand to heal. 🙄
