Hiked up took around 4 hours at a leisurely pace a pair of winter boots were enough up until the summit however my son had a cheap pair of micros. We saw some tracks for a full crampons up on the summit which was fairly icy micro spikes were good hiking crampons perfect (KTS). However there was one sketchy section where the snow hadn’t packed much and a fall would have definitely resulted in a long un arrest able slide or more likely a broken leg so we were careful. Only saw 2 other groups: one guy and his dog and a couple under dressed and soaked through a mile in they turned around: people need to be prepared despite the fact this is a small mountian. We will for sure be back for old rag next winter after a big storm.
I have grivel G10s and KTS crampons. Should I buy micro spikes or accept my traction is overkill? I’m looking to go Old rag mid winter or next ice storm and do so off trail things. I’m assuming no need for an ice axe any where as the tree line is barely ever past unless your on slab.
I have Grivel G10 crampons and KTS crampons 3rd photo. Are these too much for Old Rag in winter? I’m from the Uk where our 1000m peaks require crampon and ice axe in winter is it the same over here?
We are trying to grind and grow this clan from nothing and are doing alot of clan wars
