Hi everyone! I’m currently in an Associate of Arts program and planning to transfer into a Social Work program in the future.

I’m about to start studying there this fall, so I’m currently trying to navigate which classes to take right now.

For anyone who has taken humanities and social science courses, could you please recommend some good ones besides SSRV 2000 & 2001? I noticed those are already required.

I’m especially interested in areas like:
- Canadian History
- Economics
- Family Studies
- Gender Studies
- Indigenous Studies
- Political Science
- Psychology
- Sociology

I’d love to hear which courses you found interesting, useful for social work, or manageable GPA-wise. Thank you so much :)

After a long battle to get back to studying abroad, I have finally made it. 🌍

I studied abroad from Grade 8–12 because of my mom. Even though her financial situation was not easy, she still tried her best to give me opportunities and experiences outside of my home country. She has always been my sweetest angel and biggest supporter.

Later on, my dad became the one financially supporting my education. I know he loves me in his own way, and I know he worked hard to build a comfortable life for our family. From my perspective, his business was doing well enough for me to believe that studying abroad again was possible.

But instead, I felt trapped in a life I did not choose. I was placed into universities I didn’t want to attend, trying to force myself to fit into an environment that never truly felt right for me.

I tried my best to make it work. I made friends and lost friends. I studied film ,something I once had so much passion for. I went to therapy, went to the gym, completed every assignment, and actually did very well academically. But emotionally, I was exhausted. I often felt alone, misunderstood, and even used by people around me.

For a long time, I blamed myself for not being able to adjust. But eventually, I realized that sometimes when the surroundings no longer help you grow, healing does not come from forcing yourself to stay , sometimes you have to move. Sometimes choosing a new environment is not running away, but finally choosing yourself.

At the same time, I was constantly fighting for the chance to study abroad again. It took arguments, tears, mental breakdowns, and so much emotional strength just to be heard and finally be free to choose my own path.

Now, at 20 years old, I have to restart again by taking prerequisites to study social work. And honestly, I’m okay with that. Life is not a race, and I would rather start over than continue living a life that does not feel right for me.

I hope one day I can use my degree to help many people , to support them, understand them, and remind them that they also deserve a life where they feel safe, seen, and fulfilled.

And somehow, through all of it, I never stopped believing that there was still a place in this world where I truly belong.

Today, I’m proud of myself for not giving up. I’m thankful to the version of me that kept going even when life felt unfair, heavy, and uncertain.

This is not just about studying abroad.
It is about finally choosing the life that feels right for me. 🩵
