20 y/o diesel tech looking to get into mining mechanic work in the U.S. looking for advice?

Hey everyone, I’m 20 years old and looking to get into the mining and heavy equipment mechanic field here in the U.S., and I’d really appreciate some advice from people already in the industry.

I have a few years of experience working in equipment rental, and I also went to tech school for diesel mechanics. I’m comfortable with basic diagnostics, maintenance, and working on equipment, but I know mining is a whole different level.

I’m mainly curious about how hard it is to break into mining as a newer tech and what companies or regions are best to look into. I’m also wondering if I should get more experience first and what kind of experience would help the most. I’d like to know what the day to day job is really like, along with pay, schedule, and work life balance.

I’m willing to relocate and put in the work, I just want to make sure I’m heading in the right direction to get into the field.

Any advice or personal experiences would really help. Thanks in advance.
