I made a write up on the current state of PS5 jailbreaking which aims to answer reoccurring questions:
As of early May 2026, PS5 jailbreaking is fragmented by firmware version, with real-world usability depending on your exact firmware and hardware (disc vs. digital).
There’s no “full CFW” or „Golden FW“. Higher firmwares often require specific (sometimes inconvenient) entry points. Always stay offline once jailbroken, and do not update if you’re on a good firmware.
Info changes fast. Regularly check trusted sources like this sub and its Wiki, devs twitter & github (e.g., EchoStretch, Gezine, The Fl0w, etc.) and YouTube (Modded Warfare). Avoid anyone promising latest-firmware miracles.
Usable Firmwares Right Now
• Best overall / most recommended: Up to 10.01 (especially 10.00/10.01) — This is considered the sweet spot for “usable” jailbreak by many. Full Kstuff/etaHEN support is available, enabling PS4 FPKGs, PS5 backups, homebrew, etc.
• Lower firmwares (3.xx–4.51) have hypervisor exploits which enables Linux.
• Higher firmwares (10.20–12.00): Current state: Possible but less convenient. Currently requires expensive LuaCore userland (Star Wars Racer Revenge / SWRR game as entry point).
• Above 12.00–12.70: No kernel released yet but expected soon (P2JB). Advantage: works with any userland: YouTube & Netflix up to 12.40. LuaCore, Lua and Yarpe up to 12.70. Disadvantage: will take literally 3 hours to jailbreak. Devs are working to speed up the process though.
• Above 12.70 to 13.20 (latest): Gezine found a zero day exploit which was reported to Sonys bug bounty program. Don’t expect this to be disclosed by Sony any time soon.
General advice: If below 12.00, do not update. Lower is better as Sony patches vulnerabilities with every update. Disc consoles have more options than digital versions (BD-JB and BD-UN-JB).
What can you realistically do on a jailbroken ps5:
• PS4 backups/FPKGs: yes, pretty much all of them run in ps4 pro mode. 60 fps mods available for some games.
• PS5 backups: Yes, via tools like Itemzflow/ShadowMount (mount/install from USB/internal). Not all dumps are playable due to advanced security measures. But devs are working on solutions and the situation is a lot better than in 2025. Backports for lower firmwares are a thing since early 2026.
• Homebrew/apps: Yes (file managers, emulators, cheats, debug tools, etc.).
• Linux: Progressing. Currently only on lower firmwares (3–4.51) with hypervisor exploit working. Possibly to be extended to higher firmwares in the future (max. 6.51; note this is uncertain).
Stability: Varies by firmware and exploit chain. Crashes, kernel panics and soft bricks are still possible. Nevertheless we have reached a state where normal use is feasible.
Main Tools:
• etaHEN: All-in-one homebrew enabler/payload. Popular versions like 2.5B/2.6B. Loads homebrew, plugins, etc.
• Kstuff (or Kstuff-lite): Kernel-level payload for deeper access (FPKGs, backups, etc).
• Itemzflow: Game manager/launcher for backups, installs, etc.
• Others: various mounters & autoloaders, plugins for cheats/debug.
Entry points include webkit, YouTube, Netflix, Yarpe/Renpy, LuaCore, Lua and BD-J (only for disc editions).
Buying Guide: If you want to jailbreak now, hunt for a low-firmware PS5. Ideally 4.51 or lower. Under 10.01 if you don’t care about Linux. Disk editions are preferred. If you are not in a hurry, you can look out for a ps5 up to 12.00 (currently only luacore jb chain available; other JB not yet released). Avoid everything above 12.00 for now as the jailbreak is not yet released and they will require expensive userlands and/or literal hours of waiting time to execute.
Important:
• Stay offline
• Don’t update your console
• Follow trusted sources
• Be Patient
• Be kind towards the devs
• Read this subs Wiki
Happy jailbreaking!
