Ekberg in this film is the earliest instance of the manic pixie dream girl I can think of based on the movies I know. I am especially interested in learning about more instances of this trope in early film, because I’m curious how this trope may have changed over time with societal shifts, cultural trends and the shifting lens of the male gaze.
