Which country should I target for MS EE/ECE?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been seriously considering applying for MS EE/ECE programs in Australia and Europe and wanted some honest opinions on my profile, country choice, and whether it makes sense to go right now.

my_qualifications

- Electrical Engineering from one of the top 6 IITs

- CGPA: 8.7x

- Around 2.5 years of experience at a well-known semiconductor/embedded systems company

- 1 IEEE conference paper + some internal patent-related work

- A few embedded/IoT projects from college

- GRE: 330 (169Q)

- IELTS: 8.5

Financial situation:

- Around 35L INR savings

- Parents can contribute ~20L

- Living expenses will be covered by them during the course

- So loan requirement would be minimal

What I’m trying to figure out:

- Australia vs Europe for MS EE/ECE in terms of:

- Job opportunities in embedded / semiconductor roles

- Long-term career growth

- How competitive my profile is for strong universities in these regions

- Whether 2–3 years of industry experience makes a meaningful difference in admissions and job outcomes

- Whether it makes more sense to apply now or work another 1–2 years

- Overall ROI of doing an MS in EE/ECE in the current market

Would really appreciate insights from anyone who has applied with a similar profile or is currently studying/working in these regions.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I am also fluent in German, B2 Level

Hey everyone,

I’ve been thinking seriously about applying for MS EE/ECE programs in Australia and Europe, and wanted some honest opinions on both my profile and whether the move makes sense overall.

my_qualifications

- EE from one of the top 6 IITs

- 8.7x CGPA

- Around 2.5 years of experience at a fairly well-known semiconductor/embedded systems company

- Most of my work is around firmware, ARM MCUs, RTOS, debugging, low-power systems, and embedded development in general

- Worked on hardware-software integrated products as well

- 1 IEEE conference paper + some internal patent-related work

- A few embedded/IoT projects from college

- GRE: 330 (169Q)

- IELTS: 8.5

Financially, I’ve saved around 35L INR myself so far, and my parents are willing to support me with another ~20L. They’ve also said they’d handle my living expenses during the degree, so ideally I wouldn’t need to take a very large loan.

Lately I’ve been trying to figure out whether applying now actually makes sense or if I’d be better off staying in industry for another year or two before going for a master’s. I’m also a bit unsure about how competitive my profile realistically is for stronger EE/ECE programs in Australia and Europe, especially for embedded systems/semiconductor related tracks. Another thing I’ve been thinking about a lot is the job market afterward — particularly how Australia compares to Europe for embedded/software-hardware roles, PR opportunities, salary growth, and overall long-term stability. Financially the degree seems manageable for me, but I still keep wondering whether the ROI is genuinely worth it in the current market or whether staying in India in semiconductor/embedded roles would make more sense long term.

Would genuinely appreciate perspectives from people who’ve gone through something similar or are currently studying/working there.
