Fuck people who inflate the cost of cycle infrastructure: The Te Ara Tupua cycle path did not cost $350 M

Before: Quite literally, a painted line between cyclists and a 100km/h state highway.
Now: A fully highway crash barrier separated 5m wide cycle path with higway crossing bridge.
Why did it cost $350 Million?
> The path also acts as a seawall alongside State Highway 2 and the railway line, protecting transport links from future coastal erosion. More than 6000 interlocking concrete blocks in six sections of seawall were also added to strengthen the shoreline.
Because of seismic and climate strengthing of the harbour sea wall. That needed to be done anyway. Building a cycle path on top was basically free.
Still, this gives a protected, separated, flat grade cycle path along a dangerous 4.5km section between the central city and a major suburban satellite area. And it happened under a right wing transport minister even.
