BTC funding rate just doubled its 7-day average. perps at 2x normal while price sits at $80k

BTC funding on Hyperliquid right now is 0.0000125, which is 2x its 7-day average of 0.0000062. OI is sitting at 28,970 BTC (~$2.3B notional). That's not a huge funding number in absolute terms, but the deviation is the signal. longs are paying at twice their usual rate without a significant price move to justify it. Someone is building a position.

HIP-4 is showing BTC $79,779 by May 15 at 60% YES. No divergence with perp sentiment worth flagging there. When those two disagree is when it gets interesting, and that happens more than you'd think across different assets.

SUI funding rate running 2.5x above its 7-day average right now

Pulled the funding outliers on HL this morning and SUI is standing out. Current rate is 0.0000125 against a 7-day average of 0.00000503. that's a 2.5x deviation, longs paying shorts, OI at $34.7M. XRP is also elevated at 2.1x its average. When funding deviates that far from baseline it usually means one of two things: either conviction is building and longs don't care about the carry cost, or it's getting crowded and a squeeze is coming.

XMR is doing something similar at 2.4x above its average, which is unusual for a lower-volume asset. HYPE is actually flipped the other way. shorts paying longs at 2.3x below its average, which means the market is leaning bearish on HYPE right now.

I built PredMCP to surface these kind of cross-signals without manually checking each asset. It pulls HL perp data, Polymarket odds, and HIP-4 prediction markets into Claude so you can ask one question and get everything at once. Still early. more data sources coming, open to suggestions on what to add next. predmcp.com if you want to try it.
