a former member if my team was approached by a key competitor late year and resigned out of the blue. I was totally blindsided as they had been a long term employee and a high performer.

fast forward 4 months and they have asked to come back - new company is not working out.
Over the time that they were not working together i had time to reflect and realised that while they were a high performer, they were very gossip focused and had a negative impact on the team. it was a breath of fresh air having the drama out of the team.

however, leadership are thrilled at the prospect of a return as it sends a message to the market they this company is a better option to perspective employees, and they also see an opportunity to lowball future salaries based on a superior culture.

does anyone have any experience in this and suggestions on how to proceed?
