Does anyone else get irrationally angry when writing emotionally messy characters?

I'm writing a second chance/divorce story right now and I accidentally made a male lead that's simultaneously understandable and infuriating.

Like logically I understand him. Emotionally ! want to throw him down a staircase.

And the worst part is readers are split too.

Why are morally grey relationship stories so stressful to write???
