Fieldstone and cement block foundation with hole
My family has an old home that I’m beginning to make repairs to. One wall of the stone foundation, at some point, was replaced with cement block. Whoever did it never completely joined the two and there are significant though not complete gaps from the top to the bottom of the foundation where the corners of the stone foundation were. It allows water and dirt to seep into the basement. I’m unclear how to go about fixing this. A neighbor recommended a simple cement to fill it but I wonder if that isn’t the best thing. Would getting fieldstone and mortar be a better way to approach it to marry each of the two stone walls to the cement block? I’m not very concerned about aesthetics but obviously don’t want it to look terrible. Hope someone has some ideas!
