Two 6 week old quail passed away unexpectedly and 2 9 day old quail suddenly have crooked necks
Yesterday all of the quail were fine. We keep them in large aquariums on pine bedding and are getting ready to move the older quail outdoors. We only have/had 4 6 week old quail and have 4 9 day old quail. We incubated them all and this is our first time raising quail.
Today two of the older quail suddenly seemed sluggish and within a few hours one passed away. A few hours later the other one also passed. From what we could tell it seemed like they hadn’t eaten in a while even though they have access to plenty of food and fresh water.
Two of the babies also randomly have crooked necks one is worse than the other. They have a brooder thing that stands on four legs inside the aquarium and we had it slanted. We had a bad thunderstorm/windstorm last night so maybe they got scared and jumped and hit their heads on it? I’ve been away all week and my bf has been taking care of them so I’m not really sure.
The two remaining older quail seem fine and are running around like normal and eating and drinking. The babies seem fine but obviously I feel like this isn’t normal and I have no idea how this happened. Should I cull them? What’s the quickest way to cull them? Any ideas on what’s happening? 😭 I’m so upset and feel like a failure
