I’m currently studying Industrial Design at university in Brisbane and working on a group assignment where we need to create a unique food storage container. We’ve decided on a lyre-shaped design and plan to use the vacuum forming machine in our workshop.

The issue is that the plastic sheets available on campus aren’t food-safe, so I’m looking for recommendations for materials that are suitable for food contact and can still be vacuum formed.

Ideally, the material would:

  • Be sturdy enough to hold its shape and not crack under pressure
  • Be available in different colours (not essential, but preferred)
  • Be relatively affordable

It would also be great if the material could be sourced locally from places like Bunnings or Officeworks, but I’m open to ordering online if needed.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
