Is there actually 493 Pokémon to find in Brilliant Diamond?

New to the game playing it about a week now and have found 131 and only caught 75 🤦🏻‍♂️ Ive just reached the Pokémon league island. Should I slow it down on the story mode and try find more or does it not matter so much?

I’ve recently purchased the game and near completion is it worth buying the online pass, are there still active players?
