I’m the developer of GoTodo, so obvious bias upfront.
But after years of thinking about reminder systems, I came to the conclusion that most task apps are designed around the wrong assumption.
They assume that once a notification appears, the system has done its job.
Real life doesn’t work like that.
People are driving. In meetings. On flights. Dealing with patients. Carrying shopping. Half asleep. Mentally overloaded. The reminder appears at the wrong moment, gets dismissed, and the task quietly dies.
So I built GoTodo around a different idea:
the reminder system should keep adapting until the task is actually handled.
That led to things like Auto Snooze that keeps retrying, location based continuation like Leaving Here, Arriving Home, repeat on completion, multiple reminders per day, and notification actions that can directly trigger calls, WhatsApp messages, FaceTime, emails, etc straight from the notification itself.
But one of the biggest recent changes has actually been visual.
Attached photos, URL previews and subtasks can be surfaced outside of the task itself, so you can understand context without constantly opening and closing the task.
It sounds small until you start using tasks as real working memory instead of just reminders. Photos of things you want to buy while shopping. A recurring workplace checklist with visible subtasks. Reference images for a DIY project. Links to documents or webpages you know you’ll need later.
You stop managing tiny text rows and start managing actual context.
And honestly, I think most task apps still behave more like static lists than systems that adapt around real life.
So here’s the challenge:
Try GoTodo for a week with real tasks, not demo tasks. There’s a free trial.
Use attachments.
Use location reminders.
Use repeat on completion.
Use Auto Snooze.
Use notification actions.
Then compare it against whatever task app you currently think is the best on iPhone.
I genuinely want to know where people think it still falls short, other than calendar integration, which is already on the way later this year.
