In case you wonder why the Gnocchis started popping; they are high in water, so when you fry them, the evaporating water starts bursting inside the Gnocchi, making them flip-flap all over the place. Legend says that one Gnocchi even flip-flapped back from the ground onto the tray (did you see it?). Not a joke.
