Me and my Friends may have trespassed onto the Temple on Mt.Nokogiri. What can I do now?
Me and my friends hiked up Mt.Nokogiri a couple of days ago in Japan and during our hike, we may have trespassed onto the carving of Hyaku-Shaku Kannon (the picture above).
We had probably hiked up 60 minutes when we had encountered a small barricade which blocked our path to access the rope way which was located near the top of the mountain. I recommended that we turn around and hike down since the place seemed closed but given my friends were exhausted, they wanted to go past the barricade to use the rope way. We ended up going past the barricade and into the area which had the carving.
As days have past, I’ve gained a strong feeling that we shouldn’t have done this and I’ve looked up that there is a 700 yen fee to access the area, which we did not pay. I’m not a participant of the Buddhist faith, but I am a spiritual person and I do not wish to disrespect any deity and the people that worship them. I’m really disappointed in myself for not being more assertive when it came to telling my friends to turn around and allowing this to happen.
Is there anyway I can make things right? The first thing that comes to mind is to hike the mountain again when it’s open and asks for forgiveness, but I’m in Osaka right now and going back to it would be a long voyage. Can I stop by a Buddhist temple/shrine near Osaka to ask for forgiveness? Would an offering equal to the fare suffice?
I would appreciate any advice to this matter!
Edit: Feeling much better thanks to all of you! I appreciate the warm responses❤️
