I’ve been on Wegovy since December 2023. When I started I weighed 175, had a BMI of 27, was pre-diabetic and had high cholesterol. I was able to titrate up to 1.7mg and lost 45 pounds over the first two years. My a1c and cholesterol are now within normal range! I stayed on that dose for maintenance and was doing great.

I had an insurance change and lost coverage for the Wegovy in the fall. My weight has been creeping back up and I’ve now regained 15 pounds since the fall.

I went to my new primary who was happy to prescribe but again, my insurance won’t cover it. So I searched on Reddit a bit and everyone seems to love Big Easy. I thought I’d give it a try.

I made an appointment with Big Easy, thinking it would be no problem for me to re-start a GLP1 since Id done so well on it before and that my NEW primary had no problem prescribing it for me. But the Big Easy physician told me because I’m a normal BMI they won’t prescribe it. I said ok so what do I do just wait until I’m overweight and unhealthy again to call you back? Essentially she said yes.

I’ve been on this med for 3 years, treating a chronic disease, and if I hadn’t changed my insurance, I’d still be on it. I don’t see why I should have to regain the weight to get this medication which was working really well for me. Chronic diseases like high blood pressure, diabetes, overweight, obesity, metabolic syndromes, etc. are treated chronically. Meaning for a long time or forever.

My plan was to remain on a GLP1 indefinitely. It was working so well for me, I was maintaining my weight. It just seems so asinine that I first must go back to being unhealthy to get this medication which made me healthy for 3 years.

I’m incredibly disappointed and frustrated. This med had been a godsend for me. I’m doing all I can to continue to maintain but I’m just so hungry all the time. My clothes are too tight.

Anyway. I just needed to vent. Maybe I’ll try to have my primary send the rx to one of the GLP1 companies.
