My cat has another 12 days before getting dental surgery. She was put on a two week course of antibiotics and has had two doses so far. First dose went fine. Last night was the second dose and she threw up about an hour later. She threw up 3 more times in the earlier part of today. I know she should have a full stomach before taking the meds. Only problem is she’s very stubborn, very anxious and very picky. She’s a grazer, and refuses wet food. We give her the antibiotics after filling her food bowl at night, because we know she’ll at least go over and eat a little. But apparently that wasn’t enough last night.
I went back to the vet today and they gave me a two day dose of an anti-nausea med and a topical appetite stimulant. We just gave her both, so far no eating. The vet tech said if that doesn’t work we can try mixing pate with some water and essentially force feeding her with a syringe before giving her the meds. So that’s our plan if all else fails.
I’m just wondering if there’s a better answer. I know she needs the antibiotics but I just can’t imagine torturing her like this for another 12 days.
