Hi! I'm about to graduate PA school and I'm very interested in going into critical care. I love seeing, assisting and performing procedures. I love line placement, chest tubes, intubation, etc. I get to choose 2 elective rotations - last 2 rotations before graduating. My professor gave me a small cardiac ICU as my first elective - which I am happy about because I will learn a lot in terms of vasopressors, cardiac anatomy, etc., but I am a little nervous it won't be procedure heavy. From what I hear, it's a small unit and a lot of *removing* stuff after patient gets out of OR and then keeping them for a day or two before shipping them to step down.
For my second elective, my professor said they are all out of ICU spots so I have to think of a different specialty to do. I am trying to think of other electives that will be super beneficial to me from a learning / procedural perspective for applying to ICU jobs. I know Emergency Med is an obvious one, but that is another specialty that my program is telling students they are out of spots due to demand of other students requesting it.
What else can I do? Would interventional radiology look good on resumes for critical care because it's procedure heavy? All advice and ideas are appreciated :)
