Best Camping Store in Glasgow?

Hi all,

I have somehow found myself attending Feis Ìle in Scotland for the first time next week after receiving some very last-minute time off from work.

At the moment I’m exploring camping options (since the accommodation dept has no vacancies) and would love to know where you guys think is the best store in Glasgow to acquire some camping gear?

Ill be flying in from Australia to Glasgow, since most of the CalMac ferry spots have already been booked out, so cant be purchasing anything too heavy or bulky.

Im a newbie so id love to also head somewhere that can give me some decent advice on what to get for Islay weather conditions, which I hear, is quite the polar opposite to Australia 👀

Would love any suggestions in general about camping in the UK, esp this time of the year, in exchange for some Australian drams if you guys happen to be around Glasgow from the 19th-20th, or attending the festival from the 22nd-31st😄

Cheers,

Beginner Camping Tips in Scotland

Hi All,

I’ll be travelling from Sydney to Scotland next Tuesday for a whisky festival on Islay and have decided to camp it out for the week.

It’ll be my first time camping overseas and in general (Ive rocked up in tents pre set up in the past), so I’d love some recommendations on tents and gear that can comfortably handle the following without blowing the budget too much.

  • temperatures around 0–12°C
  • rain/wet conditions
  • coastal winds around 15km/h+ gusts

Since ill be checking it in, luggage size/weight is definitely something I need to consider. Though with 30kg baggage allowance, i should have wiggle room.

Ofc im happy to also invest a bit more in proper gear if i do find myself loving it, as Ive always been meaning to do an Australian west coast and east coast trip for some time now.

I’m176cms tall if that also helps.

Any advice and patience from people experienced with camping in similar conditions would be massively appreciated!

EDIT: I understand this subreddit relates to Australia, but I figured this might be the best place to ask from a community with relatable expertise, As ill be buying the equipment here. Im more than happy to take it down should it be flagged as inappropriate
