Five (amusing) observations from the early game

Absolutely loving the game! The quality of life improvements over other similar titles really help to make it more immersive (it lets you get in on the naval battles quickly rather than finding materials to repair your axe for the 50th time). But I was amused at a few things and wanted to share my thoughts on some of the funnier bits of the early game:

1.) In so many games, boars are depicted as wafer-thin simps whose only purpose in life is to get sword-pronged so some kid can level from 1-5 in half an hour. Windrose addresses this injustice by giving boars the power of Thor wielding Mjölnir while high on PCP.

2.) Despite being a pirate, you’ll have the engineering know how of a brutalist architect which will allow you to make luxurious and stable domiciles out of rotting tree limbs and ferns. But the confounding intricacies of taxidermy will totally elude you until you’ve nearly pushed two animal species to the brink of extinction.

3.) The combat is straight forward, logical and reasonably engaging. And your approach to combat will make sense given your weapon choice and the foe you’re facing. Except for Savage Boars….where the developers decided that fighting them should be a Dark Souls-like vendetta battle where, if you walk away victorious, you’ll be holding your intestines in with a filthy mauled hand and cursing the gods that stranded you in this Caribbean hellscape.

4.) You’ll run past a million coconuts as you intently search the depths of each island in pursuit of treasure. But for some reason, you’ll literally stop focusing on your all-important quest and drop things from your inventory to make room for Cayenne Peppers.

5.) Tortuga feels amazing….with its neatly designed buildings and alleys - and with unsavory swashbucklers around every corner eager to make their fortune. But for some reason, you’ll sell the vast majority of your loot to some hicks in a dingy cave on another island entirely.
