Okay so one time our school had to send a few students for a debate competition, and apparently THERE'S LEVELS TO TS 😭 like school level, intra-school, regional, national, international… that should have been my first red flag lol khair

anyways, I’m an OKAYISH public speaker. It genuinely depends on my mood, the audience, my social battery, idk 😭 but so far the biggest crowd I’d spoken in front of was my whole school for speeches, hosting functions, elections waghera and these are the people i know ke they know me so if i mess up one speech tou it really doesn't matter tbf

i also can freestyle pretty decently and speak confidently IF my brain decides to cooperate. I’m not some genius debater or anything but with a little knowledge and enough confidence, I can usually say words in the correct order in front of a crowd 💀 and because my teachers had seen me doing all that public speaking stuff, they thought I was good at debates too (ehheheh yahan sab kahtam hoga)

Except… I had NEVER done actual DEBATE debates before. I was like “speech ho ya debate, same thing” but turns out, THERE ARE LEVELS TO TS (as mentioned before).

lekin somehow, by PUREEEE luck and vibes, I made it through multiple rounds and then we had to go to another school for the next one 😭

AND BRO. That school had students from my old schools too. I recognized SO many people there. For context, I do NOT have good relations with people from there because i’m lowkey a professional hater, so seeing everyone again made me nervous for no reason 😭

Our first round was against two dudes who could barely speak (sorry), and my team somehow defeated them with the power of fake confidence and aggressively forced American + Aussie accents 💀 (istg that was the only thing that helped me) aur mujhe laga that bas yahi round hai and we'll go home now and we'll be in the finalss yay lesgooo

Except (once agai)n:
THERE ARE LEVELS TO THIS.

For the next round we had to go against this guy, let’s call him A, and this girl, B.

B was SUPER sweet and soft-spoken and before the debate she was like “omg I’ve literally never debated before 🥺” and I BELIEVED HER. Rookie mistake. I was like ho jayega she's on the same level as me def

A, meanwhile, was your average cocky teenage pakistani boy with enough ego to power a small city, but I still thought ke ho jaye ga how bad can it be ill manage

IT WAS NOT MANAGEABLE 😭

We got a completely different topic that I had done ZERO research on because our school gave us absolutely no training whatsoever. Like genuinely none. Our school has barely ever held educational competitions in the two years I’ve studied there btw i hate my school😭

and I swear I mentally gave up like two minutes before the round even started.

I went up there and delivered the SHITTIEST debate speech known to mankind while my teachers watched in disappointment (wo bhi isl teacher and the other teacher was from the other school but i knew her kyunke she taught me) as my entire “confident public speaker” image evaporated in real time 💀

Meanwhile I probably boosted some random teenage boy’s ego for the next 6 business months.

AND THEN.
AND THENNNN.

I later found out B HAD DONE DEBATES BEFORE. literally,i went to their school page and see EVIDENCE ke this girl has been debating wth why would you throw me offf like that by telling me you're beginner too when you've been debating for a long ahh timeeee
